Urban Youth Racing School Concept Design

Designed as a proposal in collaboration with Plan A consulting, this project demonstrates a conceptual permanent facility for the Urban Youth Racing School of Philadelphia.

For over 20 years the Racing School has taught at-risk urban youth STEM subjects through the lens and excitement of race car driving, gaining them valuable exposure and a foothold to high paying jobs in STEM fields later on. This project would finally give the School the permanent space they need to grow their programs and reach more students. In addition to the state-of-the-art teaching facility, the 3 acre site would house both an Indy and Le Mans style race course as well as a fully-equipped garage and workshop and aquaponic greenhouse to supply the School’s cafeteria with student-grown organic produce. In addition to racing, students would have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning around subjects such as computer programming, robotics, controlled environment agriculture, and podcasting. The entire site would be designed to meet Living Building Challenge certification and Net Zero energy.
